Have you HERD about our Discovery Riders Therapy Horses?

We currently have 10 horses that are part of our weekly therapeutic riding lessons. Many of our horses have been donated to our program. We are grateful for our donors and leasers that trusted us with their horses to be part of our program and organization. Discover our herd and learn how your horse can become part of the Discovery Riders Family.

Meet the Discovery Riders Herd

Glory

Glory used to be a cutting horse! She is very calm, kind, patient, and smart. Glory loves scratches on her neck and chest. She is a strong addition to our herd as she is smaller in size and has smooth gaits, so she is suitable to many riders.

Beauty

Beauty is a very reliable and expressive horse in our herd. She is best friends with Goliath and loves trail rides. Beauty is a very sensitive horse and is almost always in tune with her handler and rider. She is confident and a beautiful horse, so “Beauty” is a perfect fit for her name.

Frosty

Frosty is a Kentucky mountain, Andalusian cross. He is very kind, and has wonderful manners for grooming, leading, groundwork, and bathing. Frosty is sensitive, and always seems to know how volunteers and handlers feel, so he is always ready for a hug. Frosty also knows tricks, such as how to bow and side pass!

Lucy

Before Lucy came to us, she was a show-jumping pony! Lucy loves trail rides, and she is the best horse to teach young and timid riders how to groom, pick hooves, and bridle due to her size and laid-back nature. Lucy is patient, quiet, and dependable.

Gryffindor

Gryffindor is one of our tallest horses, measuring 16 hands tall. He is well suited for many levels of riders, as he used to be a show horse, but has a quiet and kind demeanor. Gryff loves to be brushed, play in water, and is very eager to please.

Daiquiri

Daiquiri is a loving morgan/ quarter horse cross. She loves people and all kinds of treats. Daiquiri is well versed in many types of riding and responds well to her riders’ aids which allows her to be a wonderful teacher for anyone. Daiquiri is very easy to lead, groom, bathe, and tack up.

Finn

Finn is a gypsy vanner who can easily be identified by his mustache and fuzzy legs! Finn has a heart for wheelchair-bound individuals and has sweet, gentleman-like manners for grooming, including braids in his hair!

Caromel

Caromel is a sweet, halflinger. Caromel has a very smooth walk and trot. She is a great horse to teach students how to do liberty work, and lunge with her smaller size. She has a funny personality, but a kind and personable demeanor. She enjoys being groomed and loves to hang out with Daiquiri.

Smores

Smores is a miniature pony that loves scratches, and bananas! He also loves to play with Dasher. Smores serves in our program for students who are unable to ride by teaching students how to properly groom and lead.

Goliath

Goliath is our kind gentle giant of the herd. Goliath is our biggest horse, weighing 1,500 pounds and standing 16 hands tall. Goliath is very tolerant, which allows any level of handler/rider to enjoy working with him. He is patient and wise, so Goliath is one of our most used horses within our program.

Dasher

Dasher is our oldest miniature pony, who is best friends with Smores and Caromel. Due to his size and sweet nature, Dasher is a great teacher for those who may be timid around larger horses. He also enjoys being groomed by anyone.
